Ash Tree Basketry- A journey from Tree to Basket
Basketry connects humans with the natural world, utilizing materials gathered from nature to create delicate and unique pieces. Ash tree basket making is a fascinating example, involving the removal of bark and the careful pounding of the log to reveal the seasonal layers of growth within the tree’s rings. This ancient technique, perfected by Native Americans over centuries, is widely regarded as one of the finest basket crafts in the US. By engaging in this timeless art, we can forge an intimate relationship with the natural world and appreciate its beauty and complexity. All About Me
Tarcisio Ramos dos Santos(Taz)
Hey there, welcome to TazWild! I’m Tarcisio Ramos dos Santos, AKA Taz from the Alone show. I’m a participant of the History Channel show Alone Season 10. And I’m happy you are here so we can have some fun and wild adventure together. A little about me: I grew up in the smallest state of Brazil by the Atlantic Ocean. My childhood was spent living off the land without electricity or running water, which taught me the importance of self-sufficiency and connecting with nature. However, like most teenagers, I eventually left that life behind. I made my way to the USA through my passion for the arts and manful connections.
It wasn’t until I attended a formal survival school with Boulder Outdoor Survival School, guided by Cat Bigney, that I realized the true value of my childhood experiences. I fell in love with the Utah desert and reconnected with the land, diving into activities like hunting, fishing, and foraging in Western Mass. Today, I work as a direct support professional upstate NY, taking individuals on the autism spectrum on hiking excursions on the Appalachian Trail and teaching them bushcraft skills and music. I’m also a part of several musical groups in the Berkshires, including the Samba Trio, which shares traditional and modern Brazilian music during tours in Western Massachusetts. In my free time, you can find me working on my homestead with friends from all walks of life.
Crossing the desert was a turning point for me, and I am grateful for the gift that keeps on giving. My childhood experiences taught me the importance of living off the land, and I am excited to share my knowledge and passion with you. Let’s explore the wilderness together!
